Plan a Local Destination Wedding in Hunter Valley

Hunter Valley

Although Sydney has many great venues for holding a wedding, some people want to get away from the city to celebrate the most important day in their lives. Although you may not have the money to go very far, you can create your own destination wedding by travelling to nearby Hunter Valley. The area is only about two and a half hours north of Sydney and provides many great activities for guests and for you on your honeymoon.

Take Wine Tours

Hunter Valley is known among wine connoisseurs worldwide for their excellent vineyards. There are over 100 wineries in the valley, many of which offer wine tours and wine tastings, and you can even find an accommodation in Hunter Valley for a wine loving wedding guest. Consider making plans for a group wine tasting tour for the hens’ party so that no one has a make the drive from Sydney after a late night of carousing.

Sample Local Foods

Where good wine is found, good food is sure to be close by as well. Hunter Valley offers many farmer’s markets which sell locally-grown produce and locally-made cheeses. There are also quite a few award-winning restaurants ranging from elegant fine dining to casual barbeque establishments.

Instead of hiring caterers or arranging a sit-down dinner for the reception, make reservations at a local restaurant to cut wedding costs. By going to a restaurant, you won’t have to pay for food, beverages, and furniture rentals, and a chef won’t need to plan a menu for your wedding.

Play Golf

If your wedding is at night, you will need a way to keep the groom’s party occupied while you and your bridal party prepare for the event. If your fiancé plays golf, send him and his groomsmen, the father of the groom, and the father of the bride out to one of the many golf clubs situated in Hunter Valley. Playing a round of golf will allow them to enjoy some time together before the wedding and will get them out of the way at the same time.

Visit Tomaree National Park

If you’re an outdoors person, you may wish to stay at Tomaree National Park for a rustic honeymoon. Each morning you can wake up surrounded by nature and take a morning walk to see what type of birds and wildlife you can spot. The park is located on the Tasman Sea, so you can spend some time by the shore soaking up some sun and enjoying your status as newlyweds.

Since the park is near the water, you can take surfboards with you to catch some waves in the morning and then go explore some of the other areas located in or near Hunter Valley. There are several museums to explore, or you can shop for handmade gifts for family and friends to take back as souvenirs or simply enjoy some downtime.

Hunter Valley is an easy drive from Sydney, and your guests have the option of taking the train if they don’t want to bother driving; that way they can fully enjoy your wedding in wine country.
